Module 11.19 Integrated modular avionics Flashcards
What is the Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) concept?
One computer does the job of many LRU’s (applications)
How are the individual applications kept separate in IMA?
Partitions
What controls multiple applications in IMA?
Central Processing Input/Output Modules
How does the CPIOM talk to the Avionics Data Communication Network (ADCN)?
Via the Avionics Full Duplex Switched Ethernet (AFDX)
What does the CPIOM talk to the remaining LRU’s via?
ARINC 429, could be another type of ARINC
What is the benefit to IMA?
- Reduced weight
- Reduced size
- Lower power usage
- Easier modification
- Reduced recurring cost
What can be said about the IMA boxes? (Think if the aircraft is AOG and the IMA parts is on the MEL)
They are interchangeable, may need a software change
How many CPIOM’s are there?
7 - labelled A to G
