Module 11.15 Oxygen Flashcards
What are the two types of oxygen systems on an aircraft?
- Fixed
- Portable
What are the two fixed oxygen systems?
- Flight deck
- Cabin
Where are the oxygen bottles located for the flight crew system?
In the avionics
When do the cabin masks deploy?
When the cabin altitude goes above 14,000ft
Why is aviators oxygen used?
Almost completely dry
What are the oxygen bottles made of?
Used to be made of steel but now they are made of aluminium wrapped in kevlar
What pressure are the oxygen bottles?
1850 psi
Where is the shut off valve located?
Upstream of the regulators
What type of regulator is located near the bottle?
Pressure regulator
What type of regulator is located near the cockpit masks?
Flow regulator, called a demand regulator
What are the two types of demand regulator?
- Pressure demand
- Diluter demand
When may the user change the diluter to the give out 100% oxygen?
When there is smoke in the cockpit
When may pressure demand systems be used?
Aircraft that fly regularly at altitude above 40,000 ft
How is pressure demand oxygen supplied?
Through individual pressure regulators under high pressure
How will you know if the oxygen system has been discharged thermally or via the pressure relief?
As the green safety disk will have burst
