Describe the world distribution of fold mountains referring to named places in your answer

A

Fold mountains are the most common type of mountain in the world. The rugged heights of the Himalayas, Andes and Alps are all active fold mountains. The Himalayas stretch through the borders of China, Bhutan, Nepal, India and Pakistan. The crust beneath the Himalaya is still the process of being compressed.

Q

Tell me how chemical weathering occurs

A

Rainwater mixes with carbon dioxide to form a weak carbonic acid. Limestone is held together by calcium carbonate. When the weak carbonic acid falls onto limestone it dissolves the calcium carbonate to form calcium bicarbonate over thousands of years. This causes the limestone to breakdown or weather over time

Q

Define term a natural increase in the population

A

If more people per 1,000 are born than die in a year, the population grows. For example, if the birth rate in Ireland was 13.5 per 1,000 people and the death rate was 6.4 per 1,000 people there would be a natural increase of 7.1 per 1,000 people
