Q
What is crossing-over?
A
•As the chromosomes line up beside each other,
they sometimes exchange portions of their chromatids - crossing over.
1
Q
What happens in Prophase1?
A
- Each chromosome lines up beside its corresponding homologous chromosome
- The nuclear membrane disappears
the centrioles move to opposite sides of the cell and
the nucleolus disappears.
2
Q
Crossing-Over produces what?
A
•Crossing over produces new combinations of genes
3
Q
What happens in Metaphase1?
A
•The tetrads, homologous pairs, line up in the center of the cell.
4
Q
What happens in Anaphase1?
A
•The homologous pairs are pulled to opposite sides of the cell by the spindle fibers.
5
Q
What happens in Telophase1?
A
- One set of homologous chromosomes end up on each pole.
- A new nuclear envelop forms and the nucleus splits.
- The cell splits, and each cell has the diploid number of chromosomes.
