What does the Biosphere contain?
The combined portions of the planet in which all life exists including land,water,air,atmosphere
What do Ecologists study?
The different levels of organization within the biosphere
What is a Species?
A group of organisms that are similar to one another and can interbreed and produce fertile offspring
What is a population?
A group of individuals that belong to the same species and live in the same area
What is a community?
Includes a group of different populations that live together in a defined area
What is a Ecosystem?
A collection of all the organisms that live in a particular place with Nonliving environment
What is a Biome?
A group of ecosystems that have the same climate and similar dominant communities
What are the three Ecological Methods?
Observing-ask questions
Experimenting-to test hypothesis Modeling-making models to predict what may happen
What is a important factor that determines the system’s capacity to sustain life?
Energy Flow
What is the main energy source for life on Earth?
Sunlight
What is the percentage of the sun’s energy being used by living things?
Less than 1%
Some organisms rely on?
Rely on energy sorted in inorganic chemical compounds
What is Ecology?
The study of interactions amount organisms and between organisms and their environments
