Forces Flashcards
What are the three forces that have changed Earth?
Physical forces
Biological forces
Geologic forces
What does a Cladogram do?
Links groups of organisms by showing how evolutionary lines branches off from common ancestors
What are physical forces?
Climate change
What are geological forces?
Mountains forming
Continents moving
What are Biological forces?
The actions of living thing organisms over time have changed conditions in the land, water, atmosphere of Earth
What does the RNA World hypothesis propose?
That RNA existed by itself before DNA
From the RNA-based system
Several steps could have led to DNA directed protein synthesis
What is the Endosymbiotic Theory?
That symbiotic relationships evolved over time between primitive Eukaryotic cells and the Prokaryotic cells within them
What are the steps of the Endosymbiotic Theory?
Prokaryotic Cells entered old Eukaryotic Cells
The intruders didn’t infect the host and the host didn’t digest them
The Prokaryotes began living inside the larger cells
What does Relative Dating allow?
Allows paleontologists to determine whether a fossil is older or younger than other fossils
What is Radiometric Dating do?
Uses the proportion of radioactive to stable isotopes to calculate the age of a sample
Gives absolute age
What is the Geologic Time Scale based on?
Relative and absolute dating
What are the major divisions of the geologic time scale?
Eons
Eras
Periods
