Alleles Flashcards
What is Incomplete Dominance?
Neither alleles are dominant over another
What are the exceptions of Mendel’s principles?
NOT all genes show simple patterns of inheritance
Due to the majority of genes have more than 2 alleles and many traits are controlled by more than 1 gene
What happens in Incomplete Dominance?
A blending occurs
Red and white make pink
What is Codominance?
Both alleles contribute to the phenotype
Ex: chickens can be dominant for white and black feathers
If chickens are con dominant and heterozygous their colors would be?
Speckled
What are multiple alleles?
Having more than 2 alleles for a trait
Ex:hair color, blood type
What are Polygenic traits?
Traits controlled by 2 or more genes
Ex:skin color
Studies have shown that characteristics are also determined by?
By interaction between genes and the environment
What are the 4 types of blood?
A-AA-AO
B-BB-BO
AB
O-OO
Blood type O can do what?
Can go into any other blood type besides negative
Blood type O has no?
Has NO blood indicator
