Q

What research did Dweck conduct for her mindset theory?

A
  • She sampled 330 students (aged 11-12) and used a questionnaire to split them into 2 groups
  • One group who believed intelligence is most important for success (fixed), and one group who believed that intelligence can be developed with effort (growth)
  • She then gave each group 12 tasks, 8 easy and 4 more difficult
  • Students in both groups completed the first 8 tasks with ease
  • Studies showed that the fixed group gave up quickly with the 4 difficult tasks, but the growth group persevered and had a higher rate of success
