Midterm I: Abdominal Contents (Ben) Flashcards
What structures can be found in the hepatogastric ligament?
3
Left + Right Gastric Arteries (in lower margin of ligament)
Coronary Vein of Stomach (shown as C in img)
What structure supports the spleen inferiorly?
Phrenicocolic Ligament
- known as the “nest” of the spleen or, more annoyingly, sustentaculum lienis
What vessels are found in the gastrosplenic ligament?
2 things (one of which is actually several things…sorry)
Short Gastric Arteries
Origin of Left Gastro-omental Artery (from Splenic A.)
What vessels are found in the gastrocolic ligament?
2 arteries + 2 veins
Left and Right Gastro-omental Vessels
What vessels are found in the phrenicosplenic ligament?
2 vessels
Splenic artery and vein
- note that this is sometimes called splenorenal or even pancreaticosplenic because the ligaments in this area are not really distinguishable
List the intraperitoneal organs of the abdominal cavity, including reproductive organs.
11 items
(taking the different parts of the intestines as separate items)
(Sorry for this card… just skip it if you hate me for it.)
- Stomach
- Spleen
- Duodenum, Sup. Horiz. Part
- Liver
- Jejunum
- Ileum
- Cecum (sometimes)
- Transverse Colon
- Sigmoid Colon
- Fallopian Tubes
- Uterus
It’s easy! Just remember SSDLJICTSFU! SO EEEASY.
What are the _semi-intra_peritoneal organs?
6 things: 4 GI + 2 Genitourinary
What does it mean that they are semi-intraperitoneal?
- Cecum (sometimes)
- Ascending Colon
- Descending Colon
- Rectum, upper 1/3
- Bladder (when full)
- Posterior Fornix, Vagina
- The GI organs listed develop intraperitoneally but then fuse with the posterior abdominal wall, as seen in figure D. Sometimes small mesocolons persist as in figures B and C.
What are the _primary retro_peritoneal organs?
4 things
- Kidney
- Adrenal Gland
- Ureter
- Rectum, middle 1/3
What are _secondary retro_peritoneal organs?
Only 2, thank god. (Don’t include vessels + nerves)
What does secondary retroperitoneal mean?
- Duodenum (except sup. horiz. part)
- Pancreas
- They began intraperitoneal and then lost their completel peritoneal covering during development.
What are the 3 crossings of the ureter?
- Behind the gonadal arteries
- Behind the uterine artery / vas deferens
- In front of the common iliac artery
At what level is the Superior Mesenteric Artery found and what are its branches?
At L1…
- Inferior Pancreaticoduodenal
- Jejunal Branches
- Ileal Branches
-
Ileocolic Artery
- Ant/Post Cecal Arteries
- Ileal Branch
- Appendicular Artery
- Right Colic Artery
- Middle Colic Artery
At what level is the inferior mesenteric artery found and what are its branches?
At L3…
- Left Colic Artery
- Sigmoid Branches
- Superior Rectal Artery
What is the important anastamosis between 2 branchs of the inferior mesenteric artery?
Sudeck critical point
- btwn last sigmoid branch and superior rectal artery
- important in colorectal surgery
