What are micro-organisms? List the 4 examples
The most popular cell in the body

What is pathogenicty?
The ability to make someone ill. These are infectious agents which cause harm to the host (the person).
What 3 ways can orgnisms get into the body?
Mucous membrane of the respiratory or GI tract; skin, or by parenteral routes.
What are glycoproteins?
Protein molecules which have carbohydrates attached
What are lipoproteins?
Molecules filled with fat and cholestrol, which has a lipid membrane and has proteins
What are extremophils?
organisms which can live in extreme environments, under high pressure and temperature
When does an infection occur?
When bacteria, viruses or other pathogens invade the body and begin to multiply
When does disease occur
Cells of the body become damaged from the invading pathogens, and regular cell processes are disrupted
How does a viruses occur?
They attach themselves to the host cell > penetrate the cells cytoplasm > viruses multiplies then is released from the cell > particles move to another cell, and the process starts again.
What is a spordic?
An unpredicted outbreak
What is an endemic?
It is in the population, and you can not get rid of it. Everyone is spreading
