MI complications Flashcards
MI complications
1) cardiac arrhythmias
2) cardiogenic shock
3) ventricular free wall rupture
4) ventricular aneurysm formation
5) postinfarction fibrinous pericarditis
6) Dressler’s syndrome
Cardiac arrhythmias
Important cause of death before reaching hospital, common in first few days LV failure and pulm edema
Cardiogenic shock
Large infarct, high risk of mortality
Ventricular free wall rupture
Cardiac tamponade;
papillary muscle rupture;
severe mitral regurg;
IV septum rupture => VSD
Ventricular aneurysm formation
Low CO
risk of arrhythmias
embolus from mural thrombus
greatest risk 1 week post MI
Post infarction fibrinous endocarditis
Friction rub (1-3 days post MI)
Dressler’s syndrome
Autoimmune phenomenon resulting from fibrinous pericarditis (several weeks post MI)
