Auscultation of the heart Flashcards
Aortic area
Systolic murmur:
1) aortic stenosis
2) flow murmur
3) aortic valve sclerosis
Pulmonic area
Systolic murmur:
1) pulm stenosis
2) flow murmur (atrial septal defect, PDA)
Tricupid area
Pansystolic murmur
1) tricuspid regurg
2) VSD
Diastolic murmur
1) tricuspid stenosis
2) ASD
Mitral area
Systolic murmur
1) mitral regurg
Diastolic murmur
1) mitral stenosis
Left sternal border
Diastolic murmur
1) aortic regurg
2) pulm regurg
Systolic murmur
1) hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
ASD murmur
Presents with pulm flow murmur (increased flow through pulm valve) and diastolic rumble (increased flow across tricuspid)
Flow across the actual ASD does not cause murmur since no pressure gradient.
The murmur later progresses to a louder diastolic murmur of pulm regurg from dilatation of the pulm artery.
