Pharmacology and presentation of Methoxyflurane?
A
3ml
Methoxyflurane is a volatile, self-administered inhalational analgesic (CNS depressant)
at low concentrations and is indicated for short-term pain relief.

Indicators of Methoxyflurane?
A
- Pre-hospital pain relief where narcotics are contraindicated or not appropriate

Contraindications of Methoxyflurane?
A
- Family history of malignant hyperthermia
- Pre-existing renal disease or impairment
- Current use of tetracycline antibiotics.
- Exceeding total dose of 6ml in 24hr or 15ml in 7 days

Cautions of Methoxyflurane?
A
- Self-administered (hand-held) by pt
- Pre-eclampsia

Side Effects of Methoxyflurane?
A
- Drowsiness
- Decreased in blood pressure and bradycardia
- Exceeding the maximum total doses may lead to renal toxicity

Dosing Regimes of Methoxyflurane?
A
Analgesia
- Adults = 3ml INH, repeating once at 25mins to a max of 6ml
- Paeds = 3ml INH, repeating once at 25mins to a max of 6ml

Onset and duration of Methoxyflurane?
A
- Onset = 8-10 breaths
- Duration = approximately 25mins
