Pharmacology and presentation of Aspirin?
A
300mg tablets.
An anti-platelet aggregator with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory effects. Inhibits cyclooxygenase reducing the formation of prostaglandins and thromboxane.

Indicators of Aspirin?
A
- ACS (To minimize platelet aggregation and thrombus formation in order to retard the progression of coronary artery thrombosis in acute coronary syndrome)

Contraindications of Aspirin?
(HA SCAB)
A
- Hypersensitivity to aspirin/salicylates
- Acute febrile illness in pt’s <12 due to risk of renal impairment and Reye’s Syndrome (acute noninflammatory encephalopathy and liver failure)
- Suspected dissecting aortic aneurysm
- Chest pain associated with psychostimulant OD SBP >160
- Actively bleeding peptic ulcers
- Bleeding disorders

- 300mg Orally

Onset and duration of Aspirin?
A
- Onset = ~10 minutes peaks around 15
- Duration = ~7 days (natural life of platelet)
