Q

what are carbohydrates?

A
  • saccharides
  • used for energy
  • monomer = glucose

monosaccharides = simple sugar = sucrose (fructose & glucose)

disaccharides = 2 simple sugars = fructose

polysaccharides = many simple sugars = starch

Q

what are nutrients?

A
  • water = fluid which other substances are dissolved
  • carbs = main source of energy
  • lipids = broken down into fatty acid and glycerol = broken down to release energy
  • proteins = broken into amino acids
