Memory actions Flashcards
List the memory actions.
WE LUSTED
W - Windshear (reactive/predictive)
E - EGPWS Warnings; EGPWS Cautions
L - Loss of braking
U - Unreliable speed
S - Stall: recovery; warning at lift off
T - TCAS: warning (RA); caution (TA)
ED - Emergency Descent
25/10/24
“WINDSHEAR WINDSHEAR WINDSHEAR”
* before V1
* after V1
* airborne
(memory action)
Before V1: “if there are significant variations in airspeed trend” - abort take off.
After V1:
PF announces “WINDSHEAR TOGA”
* THR LEVERS - TOGA
* at VR - ROTATE TO SRS (or 17.5° if no FD available), or S/STICK FULLY BACK
airborne:
PF announces “WINDSHEAR TOGA”
* THR LEVERS - TOGA
* AP - KEEP ENGAGED
* SRS orders - FOLLOW
* do not change configuration until out of windshear
25/10/24
“WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
(not a memory action)
This is not listed as a memory action in that section of the FCOM, but the FCTM is a bit wooly as to whether it is, or isn’t a memory action. The FCTM gives the following as a recommendation (but then says “must”):
* THR LEVERS - TOGA
* AP - KEEP ENGAGED
* SRS ORDERS - FOLLOW (or pitch to 17.5°)
* do not change configuration
25/10/24
“GO AROUND WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
(not a memory action)
The FCTM (not the memory actions section of the FCOM) gives the following information:
“The flight crew must carefully check that there is no hazard. If this is the case, the flight crew can disregard the alert, providing… there are no other signs of windshear conditions and the reactive system is operational.”
25/10/24
“TERRAIN TERRAIN”
“TOO LOW TERRAIN”
“TERRAIN AHEAD”
“OBSTACLE AHEAD”
(memory action)
PF announces “PULL UP TOGA”
AP - OFF
Pitch - PULL UP
Thrust levers - TOGA
Speed brakes - CHECK RETRACTED
Bank - WINGS LEVEL/ADJUST
Configuration - remain in current configuration until clear of obstacle
The only exception to performing the above manoeuvre is if in day VMC, with terrain and obstacles clearly in sight.
25/10/24
“SINK RATE”
“GLIDESLOPE”
(memory action)
Above 1000ft (IMC) or 500ft (VMC) - Adjust flight path
Below - Consider go around
If conditions require a deliberate approach below the glideslope, then select GS mode - OFF
25/10/24
“DON’T SINK”
(memory action)
Flight path - ADJUST
25/10/24
“TOO LOW GEAR”
“TOO LOW FLAPS”
(memory action)
Mandatory go around.
25/10/24
Loss of braking
(memory action)
PF announces “LOSS OF BRAKING”
Reverse - MAX
Brake pedals - RELEASE
A/SKID - OFF
Brake pedals - PRESS
(max braking pressure 1000psi)
If still no braking:
PARK BRAKE - USE in successive short applications.
When the A/SKID and N/W STRG is set OFF, the control of the braking system is transferred from the BSCU to the ABCU and the alternate braking mode is activated. By releasing the brake pedals before switching the A/SKID and N/W STRG off, gradual brake pressure can be applied.
Unreliable speed
Discuss differences between actions if in CONF 0, 1, 2, 3 and F.
(memory action)
IF SAFE CONDUCT OF THE FLIGHT IS AFFECTED:
PF announces “UNRELIABLE SPEED”
AP - OFF
FD - OFF
A/THR - OFF
Pitch/thrust:
Below thrust reduction alt - TOGA, 15°
From thrust reduction alt to FL100 - CL, 10°
Above FL100 - CL, 5°
Configuration - if in CONF F, select CONF 3 and maintain. If in any other config, do not change.
Speedbrakes - CHECK RETRACTED
L/G - UP
When above MSA or circuit altitude - level off for troubleshooting.
25/10/24
Stall recovery
(high altitude stall)
(memory action)
As soon as any stall indications present:
PF announces “STALL I HAVE CONTROL”
Reduce angle of attack (reduce thrust if necessary)
Wings level
Smoothly increase thrust
Check speed brakes retracted
If in clean configuration and below FL200, select CONF 1
25/10/24
Stall warning at lift off
(memory action)
PF announces “STALL TOGA 15 DEGREES”
“TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC”
(TCAS caution)
(memory action)
PF announces “TCAS I HAVE CONTROL” or “TCAS BLUE”
Autothrust - ON
25/10/24
TCAS warning (RA)
What would you do if in CONF 3 or CONF F?
What happens if you also get a GPWS or stall warning?
(memory action)
For a/c with AP TCAS: Follow FD orders.
For a/c without AP TCAS:
AP - OFF
FD - OFF
V/S - ADJUST to follow TCAS orders
ATC - NOTIFY
The only exception to this is if a CLIMB RA is issued when in CONF 3 or CONF F, in which case a go around should be performed.
Stall, EGPWS and windshear warnings should take precedence when executing a TCAS RA.
25/10/24
CAB PR EXCESS CAB ALT
(not a memory action, but contains the EMERGENCY DESCENT procedure, which is)
If above FL100, the ECAM will direct to use oxygen masks.
If above FL160, execute the EMERGENCY DESCENT procedure.
If below FL160, initiate a normal descent to FL100 or MEA/MORA and advise the cabin crew.
