What is the procedure for administering instillation ophtalmic medications

A

clean eyelid and eyelashes using gloves and sterile cotton balls with sterile solution
give them a dry sterile absorbent sponge to press on the nasolacrimal duct after administration of the drug
Hold open the lower conjunctival sac while having them look up at the ceiling
Drop meds into the outer 3rd of the lower conjunctival sac
have client use the sponge for 30 seconds to prevent drugs from entering the nasolacrimal duct and causing systemic effects
