What is wellnesss
a state of well-being

What is the idea behind the clinical model
People viewed as physiologic systems with related functions and the opposite of health is disease or injury
What is the idea behindd role performance model
Health is defined in terms of an individual’s ability to fulfill societal roles, that is , to perform his or her work
What is the idea behind adaptive model
Health is defined as a creative process where disease is the failure in adaptation
The focus of this model is stability; with an element of growth & change
What is the idea behind eeudaimonistic model
This model is a more comprehensive view of health where health is seen as a condition of actualization or realization of a person’s potential
What is the idea behind agent-host-environment model
When the three are in balance, health is maintained
When not in balance, disease occurs
It is used primarily in predicting illness rather than promoting wellness
What is the idea behind health-illness continua
used to measure a persons perceived level of wellness
What are the stages of illness behavior and give their definitions
Stage 1: Symptom experience
The client believes something is wrong and may interpret a symptom to mean something serious
Stage 2: Assumption of the sick role
The client accepts the sick role and seeks confirmation but not necessarily from healthcare providers, they
may try self-treatment first
Stage 3: Medical care contact
The client seeks advice of a health professional, is looking for reassurance and validation
Stage 4: Dependent client role
The client becomes dependent on the professional for help and looks to the professional for management of the illness
Stage 5: Recovery or rehabilitation
Client relinquishes the dependent role
Resumes former roles and responsibilities
May include adapting to a disability
