Why is Naomi Harris placed in the centre of the cover
Naomi Harris replaces the ‘I’ in pride suggesting her dominance and demonstrating how confident the magazine is that their readers will still recognise their brand despite not being able to see all of the title.
What does the colour palette connote
The red and black colour palette helps to support the idea of pride. Red is associated with pride and strength and the black is a strong bold statement, perhaps representative of their target audience - women of colour.
What does the pose used by the cover star suggest.
Harris, with her hand on her hip, suggests confidence and sass. It also lengthens the torso making her look taller and slimmer - this further improves her body shape making her figure aspirational to the target audience.
Why is Harris looking directly at the camera
A common convention of magazine and helps to add the more personal approach to this format.
