ContraIndications massage
Skin that is not intact should not be touched, either with or without gloves. Areas with vesicles should not be touched. Herpes is an example. Glove to massage area affected by a fungal infection or communicable condition Avoid inflamed areas that have been caused by infection. Swollen areas require evaluation.

Can influence poor feedback about pressure and feeling of pain etc. Non narcotic analgesics – may cause bleeding. Narcotics – reduced response to stretching , hypotonic muscles. NSAIDS – may have GI side effect

a Massage
- Talk to the patient, ask what they would like massaged. - Assess and plan the massage Position the patient for both of you. - Alter bed height, remove foot board, clear away obstacles. - Make patient comfortable and check with them.
After
Massage.
- Wash hands
- Lower the bed and raise the rails.
- Tidy area and return tray table.
- See if the patient needs anything
- Assess the massage “how they feel”
- Record massage and any other info.

Purpose is to reduce friction and prevent irritation to

Important to check the client for allergies before you
apply a oil.

Sweet Almond oil, Corn Oil, Soy Oil,
Olive Oil, Grape seed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Wheatgerm Oil,
Hazelnut Oil and sunflower oil, Avocado Oil.
Vegetable oils
can oxidize after a period of time and
become rancid.
Nut oils
are dangerous in allergies and coconut oil is
often used because of it nutritional effects.
