Peyronie’s disease
. Palpable nontender hard plaque just beneath the skin
. Usually along drum of penis
. Patient complains of crooked, painful erections
Carcinoma of the penis
. Indurated nodule or ulcer that is nontender
. Limited to men who are not circumcised
. Any persistent penile sore is considered suspicious
Scrotal hernia
. Hernia w/in scrotum is usually an indirect hernia
. Cones through external inguinal ring so examining fingers cannot get above it in the scrotum
Scrotal edema
. Pitting edema may make scrotal skin taut
. May accompany generalized edema of CHF or nephrotic syndrome
Cryptochidism
. Testis is atrophied and may lie in inguinal canal or the abdomen
. Results in undeveloped scrotum
. No palpable left testis or epididymis
. Raises risk of testicular cancer
Acute orchitis
. Testes acutely inflamed, painful, tender, and swollen
. Difficult to distinguish from epididymis
. Scrotum may be red
. Seen in mumps and other viral infections usually unilaterally
Spermatocele
Painless movable cystic mass just above testis
. Transilluminates
. Contains sperm
. Clinical indistinguishable from epididymal cyst
Acute epididymitis
. Acutely inflamed epididymis is tender and swollen
. Difficult to distinguish from testis
. Scrotum Amy be red
. Vas deferens inflamed
. Occurs in adults
. Coexisting UTI or prostatitis supports diagnosis
Venereal wart
. Rapidly growing excrescences that are moist and malodorous
. Result from infection by HPV
Genital herpes
. Cluster of smal vesicles followed by shallow painful nonindurated ulcers on red bases
. Fewer lesions when infection recurs
