M8: Blood Vessels and Circulation Flashcards
3 sections of the aorta and corresponding branches
- ASCENDING AORTA
- R+L coronary arteries - AORTIC ARCH: arches posteriorly and left
- BRACHIOCEPHALIC ARTERY
- L COMMON CAROTID ARTERY
- L SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY - DESCENDING AORTA
- THORACIC AORTA: portion in thorax
- ABDOMINAL AORTA: inferior to diaphragm. Ends as two common iliac arteries
2
RIGHT
- ascending aorta -> R coronary artery
- aortic arch
- brachiocephalic artery
-> R common carotid -> R internal/external carotid
-> R subclavian artery
-> R vertebral artery
-> axillary artery -> brachial artery
LEFT
- ascending aorta -> L coronary artery
- aortic arch
- L common carotid artery -> L internal/external carotid arteries
- L subclavian artery
-> L R vertebral artery
-> L axillary artery -> brachial artery
arteries below abdominal aorta
- L and R common iliac arteries
- branch: internal iliac artery
- external iliac artery
- branch: deep femoral arteries
- femoral artery
names of arteries of upper and mid body and which structures they support
External carotid: head, face and neck
Internal carotid: brain
Subclavian + Axillary: shoulder, chest and back
Brachial: arm
Common Hepatic: liver
Renal: kidneys
names of arteries of lower body and which structures they support
Internal iliac: pelvis, pelvic organs, external genitalia and hip
External iliac: lower lim finish card
Major veins
- CORONRY SINUS (heart)
- SUPERIOR VENA CAVA
- INFERIOR VENA CAVA
3 types of veins
- SUPERFICIAL
- DEEP
- SINUSES (cranial cavity and heart)
deep veins
follow same names as arteries
tend to be paired
matching veins to carotid arteries
internal and external JUGULAR
explain bloodflow from superior vena cava
- super vena cava
(on both sides)- brachiocephalic vein
- branch: CEPHALIC
- axillary
- branch: brachial veinS
- median CUBITAL
- brachiocephalic vein
on left side:
- L brachiocephalic vein
- internal and external JUGULAR veins come before axillary
explain bloodflow from inferior vena cava
- inferior vena cava
- hepatic vein
- hepatic portal
- split into L+R common iliac vein
- internal iliac vein
- external iliac vein
- branch: GREAT SAPHENOUS (will someones be cut for CBS)
- femoral vein
