Lower limb 3 Flashcards
3 compartments of lower leg and the innervation of each compartment
Anterior -> deep fibular nerve
Lateral -> superficial fibular nerve
Posterior -> tibial nerve
4 muscles in anterior leg
(and what muscle is in this picture)
tibialis anterior
extensor digitorum longus
extensor hallicus longus
fibularis tertius
(fibularis tertisu is in the picture)
Anterior compartment of anterior leg main actions on ankle joint and toes
ankle -> dorsiflexion
toes -> extension
Innervation of anterior compartment of leg
Deep fibular nerve
(branch from common fibular)
fibular= peroneal
Terminal branch of popliteal artery supplying anterior leg
Anterior tibial artery
Which artery runs midway between malleoli?
Dorsalis pedis
(bracnches from anterior tibial artery)
2 muscles of lateral compartment of leg
fibularis longus
fibularis brevis
Action of lateral compartment of leg muscles on foot and ankle
Foot -> eversion
Ankle -> plantarflexion (weak)
Which fibular nerve supplies lateral compartment?
Superficial fibular nerve
(remember that fibular=peroneal, i don’t fucking know why)
Common fibular nerve injury
Foot drop
Anterior and lateral muscles affected
Articular surfaces of ankle
distal end of tibia & fibula
superior part of talus
When is malleolar grip tightest?
Dorsiflexion
When is the ankle joint most unstable?
Plantarflexion
Which ligament of ankle is weakest?
Lateral ankle ligament
made up of 3 ligamanets:
- anteiror talo-fibular ligament
- posterior talo-fibular ligament
- calcaneo-fibular ligament
Which ligament of ankle is also known as deltoid ligament?
Medial collateral ligament
