Long Term Preservation (Delayed Viewings) Flashcards
Problem: Mold formation
Treatment: Apply mold inhibitor before storage & at intervals; do not store in dark, enclosed environments
Problem: Dehydration -> tissue shrinkage & darkening
Hypo-inject humectant into facial tissues & fingertips after embalming; use humectants in arterial solution; use tissue builder in face
Problem: Decompositiion
Treatment: Use high index fluids; delay cavity treatment to allow more penetration to tissues
Technique: Intermittent or alternate drainage
Helps retain solution in the body
Technique: Restricted cervical injection
Can use more humectant in face; different solutions
Technique: Place body on blocks during injection
Reduces extravascular resistance, allows better tossue penetration
Avoid excessive elevation of head
Don’t want fluid to drain from face/neck
Hypodermically treat discolourations
Prevents them turning black over time
Apply lots of massage cream to exposed tissues
Prevents drying, shrinkage of skin
Inspect body every 3-4 days while in storage
Reapply massage cream; remove moisture from sheet
