Arteriosclerosis Flashcards
Poor circulation leads to:
Decubitus ulcers; Odours; Gangrene (Dry/Wet); Amputation
Narrow arteries may trap coagula
Fluid distribution = poor
Can lead to ruptured aneurysm
Causes fluid loss -> multi-point injection
Arteries may be too sclerosed to use
Femoral injection not recommended
Treatment: Use R common carotid
Widest vessel
Treatment: Use strong solutions
Ensures preservation despite poor distribution
Treatment: Use fluid dyes
Allows tracing of distribution
Treatment: Manipulate injection pressure/rate-of-flow
Maximize fluid distribution
Treatment: Use co-injection fluids
Buffers, conditioners, surfactants
Handle vessels carefully to minimize damage
Use ligatures instead of hemostats/clamps
