Lipids General Info Flashcards
Lipoprotein
complexes made of triglycerides, cholesterol…
how does the pancreas use lipids?
releases enzymes to breakdown fats, carbs, and proteins
how does the liver use lipids?
produces bile and helps digest fats and vitamins
LDL (triglyceride)
transports from liver to tissue and other organs, synthesizes steroids
HDL (triglycerides)
made in liver and small intestine, transports cholesterol away from body and tissues (back to liver to be destroyed) and combine with bile for excretion
phospholipids
2% of lipids in the body, builds plasma membranes
steroids (cholesterol)
most produced in body, in the liver, building block for many biochemicals
VLDL
transport triglycerides fro storage in tissue and it transformed into LDL
hyperlipidemia
high levels of lipids in the blood
hypercholesterolemia
high levels of cholesterol
dyslipidemia
abnormal levels of lipoprotiens
optimal total cholesterol levels
<200
optimal LDL
<100
optimal HDL
> 60
optimal serum triglycerides
<150
