Ligaments of the Knee Flashcards
Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL)
O: anterolateral aspect of the tibia, anterior to the tibial spines on the tibial plateau
I: the fibres pass upwards, backwards and laterally to attach to the posterior part of the medial surface of the lateral femoral condyle
AUBL (Anterior, Upwards, Backwards, Laterally)
Posterior Cruciate Ligament
O: A depression in the posterior intercondylar area of the tibial plateau
I: the fibres pass upwards, forwards & medially to attach to the lateral surface of the medial condyle of the femur.
PUFM (Posterior, Upwards, Forwards, Medially)
Medial collateral ligaments
O: medial epicondyle of the femur
I: medial condyle of the tibia
Limitation: Limits valgus forces of the knee
Lateral Collateral Ligament
O: Lateral epicondyle of the femur
I: head of the fibula (lateral surface)
Limitation: limits varus forces of the knee
Coronary Ligaments
O: Tibial articular margins
I: Meniscus
Limitation: Attachment of the menisci to the tibia
