Lateral Rotators of the Hip Flashcards
Gluteus Maximus
O: Gluteal surface of the ilium, iliac crest of the innominate (hip) bone, coccyx, sacrum and sacrotuberous ligament
I: Gluteal tuberosity of the femur (1/4), (3/4) from the iliotibial tract
N: inferior gluteal nerve L5, S1, S2.
A: Extension of the hip, extension of the knee - through the iliotibial tract
Piriformis
O: front of the 2nd to 4th sacral segments, gluteal surface of the ilium of the innominate bone and sacrotuberous ligament
I: upper border and medial side of greater trochanter of femur
N: Anterior rami of the sacral plexus L5, S1, S2
A: lateral rotation of hip and abduction when the subject is in a sitting position
Obturator Internus
O: internal surface of the obturator membrane and surrounding bony margin of the innominate bone
I: medial surface of the greater trochanter of the femur
N: nerve to obturator internus L5, S1, S2
A: lateral rotation of hip and abduction when the subject is in a sitting position
Gemellus Superior
O: gluteal surface of the ischial spine of the innominate bone
I: Medial surface of the greater trochanter of the femur
N: nerve to obturator internus (root value L5, S1 and S2)
A: lateral rotation of the hip and abduction when the subject is in a sitting position
Gemellus Inferior
O: upper part of the ischial tuberosity of the innominate bone
I: blends with obturator internus and attaches into the medial surface of the greater trochanter of the femur
N: nerve to quadratus femoris L4, L5, S1
A: lateral rotation of the hip and abduction when the subject is in a sitting position
