What has been the impact of streaming on television services?
- Competition for audiences has lead to production companies needing to be more creative
- audience demand for immediacy means they have to allow for timeshift watching and on demand services
- accessibility means that programmes need to be available on tablets/phones etc
Why is tv watching no longer seen as a family activity?
Watching on individual devices and at a range of times means it is now an individualistic hobby
What is the impact of tv becoming more an individualist activity?
There are no longer mass audiences for most programmes

Livingston and Lunt studied Ofcom and defined the audience into two categories; what are they?
Citizens and Consumers
What is the citizen model of regulation?
Citizens have rights and require regulation to promote the public interest. (This is the traditional model but this is being attacked by globalisation)
What is the consumer model?
Consumers have needs and want choice. (This is linked to consumerism)
What is Ofcom for?
Ofcom is required in law (Communications Act 2003) to ensure all programmes shown in the UK fulfil certain codes. (D83 falls under this as it is C4. ST does not)

Protection of Under 18s, Harm and offence and Abuse
How has advertising changed for tv?
The ability to skip adverts has led to more emphasis being placed on sponsorship and product placement
