Lesson 2 Handling & Restraint Section 3 Feline Techniques Flashcards
How do you know a cat is ready to strike?
It will be vocal (more than a purr or meow), pull its ears against its head, twitch it’s tail slowly
How do collars and leashes work on felines
Not very well because they are so unaccustomed to wearing them that they resist.
Muzzles on felines
calm them down by covering their eyes and distracting it from the procedure
Head snares and felines
last choice for recapturing an escaped cat. Usually makes the cat more fearful of any other restraint device.
Restraint gloves
Heavy gauntlet-type gloves typically made of leather too thick for cats to bite through. Use gloves to subdue the cat while preparing other restraint method as they drastically reduce your sensitivity to holding the animal
Cat bags
Calm cats by placing them in an enclosed environment while reducing their ability to attack.
What are the 3 common sites for venipuncture on a cat?
1) Cephalic (forearm) 2) Femoral (insight thigh) 3) Jugular (front of neck)
How do felines respond to fear?
They freeze, attempt to escape or attack if they can’t escape
