Lecture5: Adrenal Gland Flashcards
What does the Adrenal Medulla secrete?
Catecholamines
What is the Adrenal Medulla for?
For emergencies, increases metabolic rate and what not
What regulates the activity of the Adrenal Medulla?
Splanchnic nerve
What is Pheocromocytoma?
A Catecholamine secreting tumor of the adrenal medulla
What does Pheochromocytoma present as?
Panic attacks, sweating, increased heart rate
Without aldosterone, what happens to a person?
beymoot
What secretes Aldosterone and what is it classified as?
Adrenal cortex, Mineralcorticoid
What is the relevance of Aldosterone on the kidney?
Anti-diuretic effect
What does aldosterone do to the sweat glands, salivary glands and intestinal absorption?
It increases the Na+ Reabsorption and the K+ secretion by the ducts
How does Aldosterone affect stools?
Prevents less of sodium in the stools
An increase in potassium concentration causes direct stimulation of?
Zona glomerulosa
Increased potassium increases secretion of?
Aldosterone
What is responsible for stimulating the synthesis and release of aldesterone from the zona glomerulosa?
Angiotensin 2
Mineralcoricoid deficiency leads to?
Decreased cardiac output and contractions along with MILD ACIDOSIS
What does the Adrenal Medulla produce?
Adrenaline
