Bipolar Disorder
A
- Both Bipolar 1 & 2 have depressive lows
- Oscillate between Mania and Depression highs and lows
- Poor social skills so they acquire fewer positive reinforcers

Bipolar 1
A
- Manic Highs that are quite marked in intensity
- often accompanied by sleep loss for several days
- far and extreme forms of happy
- often engage in risky behaviours
- Mania lasts for around 7 days
- Generally less symptomatic

Bipolar 2
A
- Hyper manic phases
- mania is not quite as high in intensity
- doesn’t last as long as BPD 1
- Lasts around 4 days
- Slightly more symptomatic depressive symptoms more persistent
- usually because their Hyper manic phases don’t last as long

Schizophrenia – Positive Symptoms
A
- Additional symptoms that add to the experiences of real life
- Hallucinations
- Delusions
- Disorganised Behaviour

When diagnosing Schizophrenia
A
• You must have the positive symptoms as well as the negative symptoms

Schizophrenia – Negative Symptoms
A
- The absence of experiences from real life
- Absence of mood or response to the world
- Absence of speech
- Seeing the world with less colour and vividness

DDx
A
- Differential Diagnosis
- When symptoms appear similar to other diseases
- Must review the client to exclude other medical diagnoses
- Eg: deleria, dementia, Sever Hypothyroidism, Hypercalcemia
