Q

Intro

Pg 1 & 4

A
  • Introversion and extroversion are on a continuum of emotional reactions -both cannot happen at the same time within a person (all can fluctuate but one type dominates)
  • it is most idyllic if there is a blend of intro/extroversion into each person: extroverts side to enjoy the outside world and introvert side to stop us from exhausting ourselves or risking too much as well as to search our souls and enjoy the world within

Extroverts

Pg 1-2

A
  • outer directed: loudmouths, outgoing, social, wants to be with others,
  • enjoys being more connected with events external to self
  • tactile - enjoys touching and standing close to others
  • lots of acquaintances that are friends on a superficial level
  • marry and divorce often due to settling to have anyone close to them fast
  • cheerful, warm, lively, impulsive, daring, fun loving, gregarious
  • Action oriented, want to get as much out of life as possible, willing to try new experiences and take risks
  • work and play hard
  • general health is often neglected since they give little thought/attention to state of bodies
  • find solitude boring
  • they cannot comprehend introversion - they always think their company is desired
  • Everyone knows what they are thinking since they express their thoughts verbally and body language
  • The stronger the feelings the more likely they are to explode: laughter, tears, or anger
  • They are fast workers that like fast paced jobs with variety that let them see the results of their job quickly; they do not like complicated jobs; they enjoy seeing how others do their job; They do not mind being interrupted by phone calls since they enjoy communicating
  • not patient
  • act/speak quickly without thinking - this gets them in trouble
  • need to be a part of something and have people around because they fear being alone; after a while of alone time they feel morose and need people to bolster them up
  • prone to midlife crisis since they do not spend time early on thinking about life’s priorities; they are immature; do not want to grow up; men tend to take notice of their body and get a younger wife

Introverts

Pg 2-4

A
  • There are different degrees of introverting
  • inward looking; they enjoy being with their thoughts (including meditation) and soul searching
  • they constantly review how the outside world affects them and they fear being engulfed by another’s powerful character
  • can become absorbed in self, dreams, expectations and fantasies - which makes them perhaps view life unrealistically
  • inwardly wise, tend to think before speaking since it is not easy to effectively express thoughts/ideas to others
  • emotional response/expression is strictly limited - may come across as frosty, which is a self defense
  • enjoys solitary activities: reading, writing, using computers since they are cautious and security minded
  • investigate all situations prior to proceeding
  • energized when alone; finds it less reward in socializing
  • wall flowers: no interest in meeting new people, when forced to socialize they build barrier to protect self
  • will hide in shell as a defense mechanism
  • intrinsic satisfaction is important
  • love deep conversations, intellectual pursuits, exploring eternal truths, seeing how others approach the same topics, what other’s think, digging deep to find root causes, and using logical thinking instead of debate
  • can work on projects for a long period of time, but do not like interruptions; need quiet to maximize their concentrations skills effectively
  • the can do extrovert things (speeches, being the life of the party, etc) but they need time to themselves
  • do not like to talk about personal life, avoid close intimate relationships, come across as being distant
  • when friendships are formed they become deep-rooted and life long
  • may be concerned more about their possessions than people
  • often people become introverts because of an emotionally traumatic experience that happened in early childhood - this may be the cause that leads to self doubt and lack of trust for others
  • desire for ego-gratification is greater than the desire for the approval of others
  • independent, self sufficient that can live/work alone
  • self centered since they are more concerned w/ satisfying themselves instead of others
  • marriage is a choice, not because they need to have any old person around them - more focused on comfort, power, and prestige than love and romanticism. They will probably pick someone who is an introvert that willnot intrude on their privacy. Sex is viewed as an urge that needs to be satisfied so not much focus is on their companion; this makes them a disappointment to the partners that enjoy spontaneous sex

Q

Introverts w/ extroverts

Pg 4

A
  • introverts are attracted to extroverts due to their warmth, gaiety, freedom of emotional expression, ease to make friends, and stage ability; eventually they may find the extrovert vibrancy too much and get annoyed by the noise of it all. They will find their intrusive behavior threatening
  • Extroverts are attracted to introverts because of the introverts reserve, detachment, and emotional depth; they enjoy that the introvert does not want their lime light; eventually they may dislike their lack of animation, quiet control, undemonstrative nature, and may feel like they are backed up against a wall
