Lecture 7 Flashcards
Used to describe a group of cells found together in the body
Tissue
The cells within a tissue share a common
Embryonic origin
Four broad categories of tissues:
Epithelial
Connective
Muscle
Nervous
Microscopic study of tissue appearance, organization, and function
Histology
Three germ layers:
Ectoderm (outer)
Mesoderm (middle)
Endoderm (inner)
Ectoderm gives rise to:
Skin cells
Neurons
Pigment cells
Mesoderm gives rise to
Cardiac muscle Skeletal muscle Tubule cell of kidney Red blood cells Smooth muscle
Endoderm gives rise to:
Lung cell
Thyroid cell
Pancreatic cell
A thin layer or sheet of cells that covers the outside of the body, the organs, internal passageways, lining of moveable joint cavities
Tissue membrane
Two basic types of tissue membrane:
Connective tissue
Epithelial membranes
Connective tissue membranes include:
Synovial membranes
Epthelial membranes include:
Mucous membranes
Serous membranes
Cutaneous membranes
Formed solely from connective tissue
Encapsulate organs and line of joints
Connective tissue membrane
Type of connective tissue membrane that line the cavity of the freely moveable joint
Synovial membrane
Releases hyaluronan into the joint cavity
Fibroblasts
Traps available water to form synovial fluid
Hyaluronan
Natural lubricant that enables the bones of a joint to move freely against one another without much friction
Synovial fluid
Composed of epithelium attached to a layer of connective tissue
Epithelial membrane
Composite of connective and epithelial tissues
Lines body cavities and passageways
Mucous membrane
Another name for mucous membrane
Mucosae
Mucous membrane includes:
Digestive tract
Respiratory
Excretory
Reproductive
Produced by the epithelial exocrine glands and covers the epithelial layer
Mucous
Underlying connective tissue that help support the fragile epithelial layer
Lamina propria (own layer)
Epithelial membrane composed or mesodermally derived epithelium called the mesothelium that is supported by the connective tissue
Serous membrane
Line the coelomic cavities of the body that do not open to the outside and cover organs withon those cavities
Serous membrane
Secreted by the cells of the thin squamous mesothelium and lubricates the membrane and reduces abrasion and friction between organs
Serous fluid
Types of serous membranes:
Pleura
Pericardium
Peritoneum
Serous membranes that line the thoracic cavity
2 pleura (lungs) 1 pericardium (heart)
Serous membrane in the abdominal cavity that covers abdominal organs and forma double sheets of mesenteries that suspend many of the digestive organs
Peritonuem
