lecture 7 Flashcards
what is the function of the nucleolus
- produces ribosomes
- no membrane seperates nucleolus from the rest of the nucleus
what are the types of cytoskeletons
1) microtubles
2) microfilaments
3) intermediate filaments
where are ribosomes situated
1) free floating im the cytoplasm
2) attached to rough edoplastic reticulum
what are the possible roles of the cytoskeleton
- movement of cells (flagella and celia)
- movement of things within the cell
what are the functions of the microtubles (ones we see the most) (cytoskeleton)
- support the cell
- transport
- in cell
- celia and flagella
- transport chromosomes during cell devision
what is the role of the centrosome (cytoskeleton microtubles)
- non membranous
- in animal cell, made up of a pair of centrioles (made up of microtubles)
fonction:
- microtuble organisation center
- move chromosomes during cell devision (so they line up properly)
what is the role of flagella and celia (cytoskeleton microtubles )
- used for movement
- flagella= few and long
- cilia = short and numerous (like little brushes)
what is the role of intermidiate filaments
function:
- maintenance of cell shape
- larger then microfilaments, but smaller then microtubles
- DONT bind ATP or serve as tracks
- each type is constructed from different protein subunit
What are the type of microtubles
Centrosome and Flagella and cilia
What are microfilaments (cytoskeleton)
- 2 strings of actin
- maintains cell shape
- movement of cell (muscle cell contraction)
characterisitcs of extra cellular matrix (microfilament)
- holds cells together
- help regulate cell behavior
- cell signaling (communication)
- cell receptors
- ## it is made of things that cells secrete themselves
what does the extracellular matrix consist of
gel like substance made of carbohydrates and fibrous proteins
what does network of microfilaments do
makes a three-dimensional network formed by microfilaments just inside the plasma membrane (cortical microfilaments) helps support the cell’s shape
where can we find celia
felopian tubes
