Lecture 6 Muscular System Flashcards
What are the three muscle types
1 - skeletal muscle
2 - smooth muscle
3 - cardiac muscle
Skeletal muscle
Cells are cylindrical, very long, multi nucleated, and striated
Can be voluntarily controlled, usually not but always found in bones
Smooth muscle
Cells are shorter than skeletal muscles
Has spindle shaped, unstriated, and contains a single nucleus
Not controlled voluntarily
Found in walls of hollow organs, the iris and arrector muscles
Cardiac muscle
Cells are shorter, branched, striated, and contain a single nucleus, not controlled voluntary
Found in the heart only
Somatic muscles
Located in body walls and longs
Recuts abdominal and biceps
Visceral muscles
Locate din walls of blood vessels and in the wall of hollow organs.
Heart, airway, muscle of digestive, urinary, adn reproductive tracts
Smooth muscle + cardiac muscle
Head of the muscle
The reddish, fleshy, contractile part
Most skeletal miles have white noncontractile portions (tendons) composed of collagen bundles that provide means of attachment for the muscle
Aponeurosis
Broad flat sheet like tendon
