Exam 1 - Bursae Flashcards
Bursa
closed normally collapsed sac of serous membrane - delicate connective tissue capable of secreting fluid for lubrication
allows one structure to move more freely over another
where is bursa usually found
near joints and between bone
tendon sheath
elongated bursa that wraps around a tendon, enclosing it as an osseofibrous tunnel that anchors the tendon in place
the tendon sheath is the donut and the tendon fits in the donut hole
what is a collapsed bursal sac
surrounds the heart, lungs, and abdominal viscera
think of it as wrapping a large half deflated water balloon around a structure (fist). —the object or organ is surrounded by two layers but NOT inside the balloon
what are the two surfaces of the deflated balloon that is wrapped around an object/organ
viceral: the surface of the balloon touching the organ
parietal: the surface of the balloon touching the body wall
what are the mesenteries in the bursal sac
the transitional fold from the viceral and parietal
