Lecture 1: Intro Anatomy Terms Flashcards
What is the term for the study of structure?
Anatomy
What term is used for the study of structures that can be seen without a microscope
Gross Anatomy
What is micro anatomy?
Study of structure that must been seen with a microscope
Regional anatomy is the approach of what?
considers the origination of the body as major parts of segments
What is systemic anatomy? Give an example
The study of structures working together to create a system of complex functions
The digestive system is an example. ( tongue, spit, throat, stomach…..)
What is clinical anatomy and what is another term used?
Applied anatomy… emphasized aspects of the bodily structure and function important in the practice of healthcare.
So, because this muscle is not functioning properly, what could be causing this issue.

What is surface anatomy?
Study of what lies under the skin and what structures are perceptible via touch (palpitation) in the living body at rest and in action.
What does it mean to be in an anatomical position?
Everything is facing forward including your palms and feet are shoulder width apart
What is a median plane and what are two other words to describe this.?
An imaginary line that slits the object into two equal halves
Midsagital plane and median sagittal
What is a sagittal plane?
Vertical planes passing through the body parallel to the median plane. Dividing the body into right and left parts
What is a frontal plane and what is another term used?
Divided the body into a front (anterior) and back (posterior)
Coronal planes
What is a transverse plane?
Splitting the body into upper and lower halves
What is a longitudinal section?
Cutting the object parallel down the middle, similar to a median plane/ there is a 180 degree range possible
What is a transverse section and what is another term used?
Slicing the body part horizontally
Cross section
