Exam 1 - synovial joint Flashcards
synovial joint
articulating bines are united by a joint capsule. composed of an outer fibrous layer lined by serous membrane called synovial membrane
joint cavity is made from
fluid filled space fibrous capsule and synovial membrane
and contains synovial fluid
plane joints
limited gliding or sliding
opposed surfaces of the bones are flat
the clavicle bone and scapula
hinge joint
like a door hinge - permits flexion and extension
the elbow joint, knee joint, and finger joints
saddle joint
allows circumduction, 2 concave surfaces on one another (2 saddle shaped heads)
permit movement in 2 diff planes - finger joints
condyloid joint
allow flexion and extension as well as abduction and adduction
move in one plane is greater than the other - joints of fingers (cant adduct or abduct dinger tips)
ball and socket joint
bine moves within the socket of another. allowing flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, medial and lateral rotation.
hip joint
pivot joints
Like shaking you head no.
a rounded process of bone rotates within a sleeve or ring, allowing rotation around a central axis
synarthrosis joint means
a joint allowing no movement (suture of skull)
Amphiarthrosis joint means
joint allowing small movement (intervertebral disc)
diarthrosis joint means
joint allowing free movement
uniaxial movement
allow movement in one plane around a single axis (elbows and finger joint)
biaxial movement
allow movement in two planes (knuckle)
multiaxial movement
triaxial - ball and socket joint
allow movement in multiple planes around multiple axes (shoulder and hip joints
where do joints receive blood from
articular arteries that often anastomose (communicate) to form networks
communication allows for multiple routes of blood flow so if you are bending you knees the blood flow to your feet does not become blocked off
