What are health care-association infections (HAI’s) and what is a result of them
What are some interventions to reduce HAI’s
Are HAI’s preventable?
What is the chain of transmission

How do we break the chain of transmission (5)
What is the purpose of routine practices
What are 3 elements of routine practice
What is the first step in effective use of routine practices and when must it be done
Perform a risk assessment before each interaction with a patient or their environment to determine which interventions are required to prevent transmission during the interaction
What are the 4 moments of hand hygiene
When should hand hygiene be done
Yes
Describe 3 types of PPE
How to put on PPE
How to take off PPE
What are important hygiene factors in regards to the environment and equipment

What are additional precautions
What are 6 elements of additional precautions
What are contact precautions
What are droplet and contact precautions
What are airborne precautions
What are the PT standards of practice with infection control and equipment maintenance
- In their chart and on their door
- Routine practices risk assessment
Gloves, hand hygiene, mask, eye protection, gown
- Routine risk assessment and make sure to look at additional precautions
- Droplet precautions (mask and eye protection), gloves
- Need to use appropriate precautions to get these patients up and out of their rooms (they don’t have to stay in their rooms at all times). Proper hand hygiene.
- Gloves and gown (contain the feces)
- Dedicated commode for the bathroom
- Slings are single use for patients, need to make sure sling is not soiled after each use and if so needs to be laundered, can have dedicated lift for their room (advocate for a room with a ceiling lift), if cant have dedicated lift then use appropriate cleaning protocols for the lift
