lecture 18 Flashcards
what does each letter of PECOT stand for
population
exposure
comparison
outcome
time
in gate frame, define source
Population the sample is recruited from, those in the population eligible to be in study
in gate frame define sample
the people from the sample who were in the study
what are we aiming to do in analytic epidemiology
In analytic epidemiology, we want to quantify the degree to which an exposure increases or decreases the occurrence of the outcome
whats relative risk
ratio of incidences:
I exposed
——————
I comparison
whats the null value of relative risk and whats this mean
Exposure doesn’t change occurrence of outcome, so no association between exposure and outcome, the null value is one 1.
Interpreting relative risk for incidence proportions and incidence rate
the exposed group were x times as likely to develop outcome compared to comparison group
risk difference can be called
attributable risk
whats risk difference calculation
Ie - Ic
whats null value for risk difference and what does this mean
icidence for both groups is equal so there is no association. the value is 0.
interpreting risk difference for Ip
there were x amount more/less per x (people over time) of outcome in exposed group compared to comparison.
interpreting risk difference for IR
there were x amount more/less cases per person year of exposure in exposed group compared to comparison group
