define population health
a birds eye view of looking at health across a population. its the health outcomes of a group of individuals including the distribution of such outcomes within a group
NZdep is a measure of
its a measure of socioeconomic status across areas of people, around 100-200
how is health distributed in NZ
there are disparities in the distribution of our health by socio-economic status and by maori vs non maori
maori have lower life expectancies and NZ dep higher scores have lower expectancy, are these ralted
yes related. as there are higher numbers of maori in the deprived areas, there’s uneven distribution of maori but SES, maori also show lower life expectancies
what are strengths of the NZdep scores
it considers a range of aspects of deprivation, can also be used for anyone my searching for their address.
weakness of NZdep scores
cant account for everything, its a relative measure which is complex to measure. its also measured on the neighbourhood level, in each neighbourhood, there will be a range of values.
define absolute poverty
Income level below which a minimum nutritionally adequate diet plus essential non-food requirements is not affordable. The amount of income a person, family, or group needs to purchase an absolute amount of the basic necessities of life
define relative poverty
The amount of income a person, family, or group needs to purchase a relative amount of basic necessities of life; these basic necessities are identified relative to each society and economy
what are the social determinants of health
the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, and the wider set of forces and systems shaping the conditions of daily life
what are the 4 levels of health determinants
individual lifestyle factors, social and community influences, living and working conditions, general socioeconomic, cultural and environment conditions
