Lecture 12 9/27/23 Flashcards
What two structures form the atrium?
-sinus centrum
-auricle
What is the auricle?
space for extra blood that can be seen on the outside of the heart
What is special about the intercostal arteries?
-connected to both the aorta and the internal thoracic artery
-cutting one does not significantly damage the blood flow to the surrounding tissue
Which veins combine to form the brachiocephalic vein?
-external jugular vein
-subclavian vein
What do the two brachiocephalic veins form?
cranial vena cava
What are the first two vessels to branch off the heart?
left and right coronary arteries
What is the role of the coronary arteries?
send blood to the heart
What is the third branch off the aorta?
brachiocephalic trunk
What is the fourth branch off the aorta?
left subclavian artery
What is the first branch off the brachiocephalic trunk?
left common carotid artery
What does the brachiocephalic trunk “split” into?
-right common carotid artery
-right subclavian artery
How do arteries flow?
away from heart
How do veins flow?
towards the heart
What does the pulmonary trunk split into?
left and right pulmonary arteries
What arteries branch off the aorta in the thoracic cavity?
intercostal arteries
What are the four chambers of the heart?
-right atrium
-left atrium
-right ventricle
-left ventricle
