Lecture 11 -the Immune System Part 2 Flashcards
What does HIV mean
Human immunodeficiency virus
What happens in virus replication
Virus attaches to host receptor proteins
Genetic material is released into the host cells
Genetic material and proteins are replicated
Replicated viruses released from host cell
What is HIV
Virus
Affects human immune system
Replicates inside the cell of the organism
Infects and eventually kills helpers T cells
AIDS
People who had HIV they had more instances of cancer within the body
What are T cells responsible for
They are responsible for causing to destroy a cell,
Describe the structure of the human immunodeficiency virus
RNA
Reverse transcriptase
Protein capsid
Attachment proteins
HIV replication
Attachment protein attaches to receptor - allows capsid to be released
RNA is transcriptase to DNA
DNA is made and inserted into human DNA
Enzymes are used to make viral proteins and then proteins are assembled into new viruses
What do antibiotics do
Kills bacteria can’t kill viruses
They are broad spectrum so they can kill
Antibiotic resistance
What is the area of a circle
A= pie r 2
What is herd immunity
When one person is infected however everyone else is vaccinated
The chances of getting infected is very high
Higher percentage of people vaccinated to not get infected
