Lecture 11: Circulatory System Flashcards
What is a function end artery?
Ineffective anastomoses e.g coronary artery
What is an end artery?
An artery that does not anastomoses e.g central artery of retina
What is an anastomoses?
Collateral arteries which provide alternative supply of oxygen
What does the brachiocephalic artery split into ?
Right subclavian artery and right common carotid artery
To supply the posterior intercostal spaces the descending thoracic aorta splits to form what artery?
Posterior intercostal arteries (EXCEPT 1st and 2nd space)
To supply anterior intercostal spaces 1-6 ?
Subclavian=> Internal thoracic artery =>Anterior intercostal
To supple the anterior intercostal spaces 7-9?
Musculophrenic or superior epicanthic => anterior intercostal arteries
The Internal thoracic arteries are a branch of what?
Subclavian artery
Internal thoracic artery splits to form?
anterior intercostals, musculophrenic and superior epigastric ( bifurcates at 6th intercostal space)
The anterior thoracic abdominal anastomoses forms between which arteries?
Superior epigastric and musculophrenic with the inferior epigastric
What does the coeliac trunk supply?
Liver stomach pancreas, spleen and proximal part of duodenum
What does the superior men’s enteric artery supply?
Distal end of duodenum, jejumn, ileum and ascending and transverse colon
What does the inferior mesenteric artery supply?
Descending and sigmoid colon and rectum
The axillary artery branches from?
Subclavian artery
The axillary artery has 6 branches?
Thoraco-acromial Superior thoracic Lateral thoracic Subscapular Anterior circumflex humeral Posterior circumflex humeral
Where is the carotid pulse found?
Anterior to SCM at superior border of thyroid cartilage level
Brachial pulse is found where?
Medial to biceps brachii
Where is the radial pulse found?
Anatomical snuff box
Between extensor pollicis longus and brevis
Where is the dorsalis pedis pulse felt?
Between tendons of extensor hallucis longus and extensor digitorum longus
The SVC receives what blood vessels?
Brachiocephalic veins and azygis veins immediately before entering pericardial sac
What is the venous drainage of the face?
External jugular vein=> subclavian=> brachiocephalic => superior vena cava
What is the venous drainage of posterior thoracic wall?
Posterior intercostal veins=> azygos system of veins= SVC OR IVC
What is the drainage of the anterior thoracic wall?
Musculophrenic/ superior epigastric veins=> internal thoracic=> brachiocephalic=> SVC
The azygos vein originates at what level?
L1/L2
The azygos veins arch anterior over the right lung root to join the?
SVC
The azygos vein drains what? And then dumps it into SVC
Posterior body wall and some thoracic viscera
The accessory hemiazygos vein drains which specific posterior intercostal veins?
4th-8th
The accessory hemiazygos vein drains to the azygos vein at what vertebrae level?
T8
The hemiazygos vein drains to the azygos vein at what level?
T9
The hemiazygos vein drains the left posterior Intercostal veins at what specific level?
8th-11th
The inferior epigastric artery is a branch of major artery?
from the external iliac artery
What are vasa vasorum?
Small blood vessels on arteries supplying the artery
The subclavian artery forms the axillary artery at what specific landmark?
First rib
