What are the 5 criteria for a student ATC licence?
- Educationally, physically and mentally sufficiently mature.
- Aged 18+.
- Successfully completed initial training.
- Hold a valid medical certificate.
- English proficiency level 4+.
What does an ATC licence allow you to do?
Provide ATC service in accordance with the rating(s) and rating endorsement(s) on the OJTIs licence.
After your student ATC licence is issued how long is it valid?
It is valid for life but can be revoked however you must use it within 1 year of it being issued.
What is an air navigation service?
A service provided to air traffic during all phases of operation including air traffic management, communication, navigation and surveillance, meteorological services for air navigation, search and rescue and aeronautical information services.
What is a rating endorsement?
Associated with the rating, an endorsement further defines the ATC service that may be provided. It is used to indicate specialist skills. Some ratings require endorsements.
What is an assessment?
An evaluation of the practical skills leading to the issue of the licence, rating and endorsements and their re validation or renewal.
How long is a unit endorsement valid?
- Valid for 3 years (12 months in the UK)
- Can be re-validated withing 3 months of expiry (45 days in the UK)

- Licence number
- Rating
- Sector
- Radar equipment
- Date of test
How long is an ATC licence issued for?
Issued for life unless revoked.
What 3 things must you do with your ATC licence?
- Must be signed in ink.
- Additional ratings and endorsements must be added to the licence.
- You are responsible for maintaining your licence and to advice of any changes in the details.
What are the 6 requirements of a full ATC licence?
- You must first hold a student licence.

Who must carry out a medical?
An aero medical examiner. They must see your previous medical certificate.
How long before expiry can you re validate your medical?
45 days. Special tests can be carried out 60 days prior.
