Micro-tears in common extensor origin

Cause of lateral epicondylitis?
A
- Repetitive strain injury in tennis players and others performing extension at wrist
- Degenerative enthesopathy= inflammation of origin/insertion of a tendon/ligament into bone

Signs and symptoms of tennis elbow?
A
- Painful and tender lateral epicondyle
- Pain on resisted middle finger and wrist extension

Treatment of lateral epicondylitis?
A
Self-limiting
- Rest from exacerbating activities
- Physiotherapy
- NSAIDs
- Steroid injections
- Brace
- US therapy
- Refractory cases: surgical treatment
