Language Flashcards
Anatomy is the study of….
The structure of the body
Physiology is the study of what?
The function of the body.
Define Homeostasis
A relatively steady internal state, usually maintained by negative feed back.
Define negative feedback.
Reverses a change in a controlled condition.
Positive feedback
Strengthens or reinforces a change in a controlled body system.
What are the 7 structures of structural complexity?
Molecule (made up ad atoms), organelles made up of molecules), cells (Made up of organelles), tissues (made up of cells), organs (made up of specialized tissues), organ systems, (organs in a group working toward the same purpose), and organisms!
Superior
Toward the upper part of the body.
Inferior
Toward the lower part of the body.
Anterior
Nearing the front body
Posterior
Nearing the back body
Medial
Nearer to the middle line
Lateral
Farther from the middle line
Intermediate
Between two structures
Ipsilateral
On the same side of the body as another structure.
Contra lateral
On the opposite side of the body as another structure
Proximal
Nearer to the attachment of the limb
Distal
Farther from the attachment of the limb or trunk
Sagittal plane
Divide the body or organs right from left
Midsagittal/ medial plane
When the plane passes through the middle p the body
Parasagittal plane
Divides right from left unequally
Frontal/coronal plane
Divides a body or organ anterior from posterior
Oblique plane
Passes through the body or organ on an angle other than 90 degrees
Transverse plane
Divided superior from inferior
Cranial cavity
Contain the brain
