  • Reduction of BP w/o reflex tachycardia or bradycardia

Labetalol Indications

A
  • BP management in ischemic strokes that received tPA. Goal SBP<180 and/or DBP<105
  • BP management in patients with confirmed intracranial hemorrhage. Goal SBP<160 and/or DBP<90

Labetalol Contraindications

A
  • Bronchial asthma (relative)
  • Overt Cardiac Failure
  • High degree heart blocks(>than 1st degree)
  • Cardiogenic shock
  • Severe Bradycardia

Labetalol Dosage

A
  • IV/IO: 10-20mg MAX single dose 20mg. Repeat in 10 min PRN. MAX total dose 50mg.
  • Continuous infusion: 2-8mg/min. Increase by 2mg/min q 10 min. MAX 8mg/min

Labetalol Side Effects

A
  • CNS- dizziness, tingling scalp/skin, numbness, vertigo.
  • Respiratory- wheezing and bronchospasm.
  • Cardiac- hypotension, Ventricular dysrhythmias, syncope, bradycardia, and heart block.
  • Other- N/V.

Additive cardiac depression and toxicity when used concomitantly with lidocaine or CCB.
