Etomidate/ Amidate Flashcards
1
Q
Etomidate Class
A
- Anesthetic
* Non-narcotic sedative hypnotic
2
Q
Etomidate Action
A
- Increases the number of available GABA receptors, possibly by displacing endogenous inhibitors of GABA binding (Remembering that GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter)
- Depresses the reticular activating system
- Induces sedation and amnesia
- It has minimal cardiac and respiratory depressive effects and causes no histamine release
3
Q
Etomidate Indication
A
• Induction agent for intubation
4
Q
Etomidate Contraindication
A
- Hypersensitivity
- Labor / Imminent Delivery
- Induction agent for intubation in pts w/ septic shock
5
Q
Etomidate Precaution
A
- Elderly
- Hepatic/Renal disease
- Pregnancy (C)
- Safety not established under the age of 10
6
Q
Etomidate Dosage

- Dysrhythmias
- Hypotension or Hypertension
- Temporary involuntary muscle movements
9
Q
Etomidate Interactions
A
• Potentiates with other CNS depressants.
• Concurrent use of antihypertensives agents may cause
hypotension
